The Sound of Seven SeasBy David Rasmussen 25th Jun 07 Aoi House the Theme Song & No Man’s Land the Flash Anime single track Sometimes you see the darndest thing from companies. Antarctic Press’ in house animation projects that seem to raise my eyebrow in a rather Vulcan like manner (and I’m not just talking about my recent exposure to Gold Digger the Animation). Broccoli Books suddenly going Yaoi… sure, I guess after that whole “Until The Full Moon” 2-parter I should have saw that coming but still… ADV bringing back Gunslinger Girl & Yotsubato (for starters). Now add to that the few multimedia pieces of interest from Seven Seas. Aoi House’s Theme Song & the pilot episode music track from No Man’s Land the Flash Anime.
Sure, there are PSP downloadable chapters from their books… just, you know, don’t actually directly download them to your PSP… until somebody makes a winzip unzipper for the PSP and puts it in an update download… just so you know if you haven’t done this yet. So focusing on these two… just not on the Flash Anime because it’s too big for my PSP to hold… we’re taking a brief pick at these two tracks of music for your consideration (now if I can only figure out if these fall into the category of “Anime/Manga” or “Soundtracks”). First off briefly on No Man’s Land. I’m sure the flash anime pilot is cool looking, and it is based on a rather interesting supernatural western AmeriManga worth picking up if you ever run across it… I’m just not all that hot on the track of music selected to promote the Flash Anime on the website. It’s 2 minutes, and it’s not the most motivating music I have ever heard. Sorry. Now Aoi House… or is it “OWwie House”(?) Sure, I suck at Phonics (I can’t even spell the word) but I do know that the word “Aoi” in “Aoi House” sounds like they’re saying “Owwie” instead of “Aoi”… or am I just not saying it right. Dammit, why wasn’t I ever hooked on phonics in my youth! First off, no, Aoi House doesn’t have an animation. I thought it did (if you remember my classic Adam Arnold interview I hinted to that misconception about Aoi House) but it doesn’t. So, then, why does a series that does NOT have an animated series (but does have a music video) have a theme song? I don’t know… but it is insufferably catchy to the point of annoying a few, and has that catchy hooky beat. Yeah, the song has that swing like some BGM tracks which stick into your skull and refuse to vacate it once you hear it a few times, but that isn’t exactly an evil thing in this particular moment… maybe. Three versions of this song exist on site. Now is it important to download all three? Well… no, pick one (maybe two) and stick to it as your favorite. The first two is a “gal” and “guy” version of the song, sung by (yes) a female and male singer apiece. The third, rounding out the tracks, is an instrumental (which starts using the track from the “gal” version) which is the song mostly without words. If you are considering a download of the tracks? Pick “gal” or “guy” (I went “gal”) and the instrumental as your two downloads. This is about 3:13 long, and it is a nice little gimmicky pop song that just bounces along with such energy and spunk. Not much else past this to download if you are an Aoi House reader (except of course for the music video), but if you are fans of the series it’s worth a little pick-you-up for your tracks (I don’t know how to get it on your Ipod but I’m sure you Ipod owners will manage somehow). The entire very small package of MP3 download tracks get a 4 out of 5 (since you might as well take them all at once since there is few selections for music at Seven Seas). Sure, it’s abit high for so little content but if you are fans of either Seven Seas series you should have them. Nuff said.
