The Animatrix
By Mike Lewis 26th Apr 04 The Animatrix is a must see for anyone who enjoyed The Matrix: Reloaded. If you are one of the many that didn't think The Matrix: Reloaded was all that great then don't see The Animatrix because all the themes have to do with the "confusing" parts of The Matrix. With that said if you are an artist or love unique styles of art this is a MUST SEE. I do cartoons as a hobby and found the Animatrix very inspiring. Each cartoon had its own unique look, style, storyline, filming and such. If you like the herb then you'll especially like to see this also, some of the cartoons are EXTREMELY TRIPPY. For Matrix fans that always want that little bit of extra storyline this is great!!! Two of the cartoons are "The Second Renaissance" Part 1 and 2. I've watched each about six times now. Ever wondered "how did the humans ever lose to a bunch of talking tin cans? Why are we trapped in pod tower thingies and stuck in the Matrix? How'd that all happen!!!" Watch these two cartoons and all those questions will be answered and more as you watch intense action scenes, disturbing, and thought-provoking material. You'll see why AI (artificial intelligence) is very, VERY scary!!! But it won't happen anytime soon so no sweat. Many of the cartoons deal with side plots. Don't be disappointed by this because if it dealt mainly with Neo and Trinity then it'd be called The Matrix 1, 2 or 3. However since it deals with side plots as a viewer and Matrix fan you begin to get a much better feel for the world and the Matrix. The Animatrix can be disturbing and sad at times. So if you're looking for a happy flick this isn't it. Many of the themes are thought provoking though which is highly enjoyable. I hate being told what to think all the time so it's nice when you have to think about what's happening instead of being spoon fed crap. For people who STILL can't figure out what the Matrix is don't waste your time watching this!!! All in all the Animatrix gets high marks in my books. I actually would rather sit down and see the Animatrix again rather then either of the Matrix films because I enjoyed the fact that each cartoon was short, straight to the point, full of action, thought-provoking and extremely unique art in each. The one with the skateboarder and the final one are my favs. Artists, stoners, matrix fans, anime lovers, Saturday cartoon lovers, action lovers and Goths will all enjoy the Animatrix!!! It's a MUST RENT, and hey, I might buy it, it's that good!!!! 8/10
