Have you ever seen a car crash? You know been driving down the motorway, you start to see the tailback and every car is slowing down to pass a scene of human tragedy, drivers and passengers craning their necks in morbid fascination? I'm just going to go ahead and assume you have, because that is exactly how I feel about this show. I don't want to watch it, I know it s going to be horrible, and yet I subject myself to it one more time in the full knowledge that I will find no redeeming facet. Well Battle Vixens, or Ikki Tousen if you prefer, ifs back for the penultimate volume of a show that I feel has stayed long past its welcome.

So what has happened so far? Well, not much really. Hakafu has come to join her cousin Kaorin in Tokyo as she takes her place in the fighter's tournament. You see that all of the kids in Japan are given little spirit stones that connect them to ancient warriors so that they can live out their battles over and over again. Instead of going to school and learning things. Sounds preposterous doesn't it? Well it is preposterous, and there is little to no reason to watch this show for the plot, as it is merely a wafer thin thread that connects the set pieces of the show.

These set pieces mainly then concern all the buxom young women in the tournament slapping each other, jiggling their breasts, showing off their panties and getting their clothes torn off in the midst of fights. If this cheap titillation sounds like your idea of fun, then I can be pretty sure that you count the bad 70's British sex comedies as your favourite genre of movie. So if you have no taste in entertainment I'm sure you will lap this show up and sing its praises for many years to come. Idiots.

As you may well have picked up on so far, I have not really enjoyed the time I have spent watching this show. I have at least one mate who tells me that you just need to switch off your brain and enjoy it for what it is. "Brain candy" is his term for the show. But what he forgets is that candy rots teeth, and I am sure that "brain candy" does the same to the mind. This show is a waste of your time and money and I cannot suggest more strongly than to give this a wide berth. MVM have really let themselves down with this show compared to the quality of just about every other release they have going at the moment. But if all of my negativity still has not put you off and you want to see top heavy teens frolicking in hot springs (yes Volume 3 has the hot springs episode), then this show could very well be for you!

R2 DVD Notes

Anime review DVD cover

Release information: COMING SOON - 19th June 2006

Notes: Once again another servicable release from MVM. The A/V quality is up to the same standards of there other releases, and the extras are pretty much what we have come to expect on any UK release, but there is nothing that sets this release above anything else due out this month!
