Martian Successor Nadesico
By Mike Lewis 9th Jun 04 I think a better name for the series would have been Dazed and Confused, I'm sure glad I was because this series is not intellectually stimulating or enthralling. The animation is great AS USUAL!! But the plot really beats around the bush. I'll relate this series to one of my favorites, Hellsing. The two series relate because in both cases the last few episodes were very weakly written and do nothing to bring the series plot together. It seems newer animes are always shooting for a never ending series. Something that never wraps anything up so that they could continue the series endlessly, making a killing. However I like when animes FINISH the story. When an episode finishes and says "The war was nearly over but.." That's great for every episode but the LAST ONE!! If it's the last episode MAKE A STAND be DECISIVE. I don't know if there will be a Nadesico two and I really don't care if there is because I know the ending will be as pointless as the first. Series like these seem to be rampant. The plot builds endlessly to nothingness. I enjoy series that lead to a CONCLUSION. An anime may represent life, but it's not life, it's not a never ending question. Therefore if you ever write an anime think about making a sequel AFTER you've already released the first series. Ok, enough about the writer's stupidity. Nadesico was a fun series. The lead character is a confused teen pilot, Akito. He's quite the player just through sheer indecisiveness and kindness. While watching you are constantly asking yourself, "When will this idiot make his move?" I mean if I were him, the series would be rated XXX, I guess that's why he is so indecisive. The series does teach you that the less attention you pay to a girl the more she'll like you, this is true to a certain point. However when a girl throws herself at you, don't run and hide, handle and guide. Nadesico tries to keep female and male viewers equally happy. The never ending and growing relationships on the ship keep the females enthralled and stupefied and the combat scenes keep the guys drooling. But that's all the series is, sheer entertainment. I'm sure that if you've never experienced "burning grass" this series would practically force it upon you. Since the plot is so random and misleading at times I would just enjoy watching the pretty colors and screw reading the subtitles. I'm not a big fan of soap oprahs, but if you are Nadesico is for you!! All in all I would rather watch the anime that Nadesico was based around "Gekigangar". It was a really neat idea to base an anime around an anime but it had its imperfections. They made Gekigangar so enthralling and emotional but the actual series so misleading and pointless, this is very strange. Nadesico is very comical and that's that. A disappointment. 4/10
