The Powerpuff Girls
By Lyndonimus 21st May 04 Townsville... a rotten place to be. A place in *dire* need of a hero. Only one man has the vision to save this town and he goes by the name of... 'The Professor'! Sugar, spice and everything nice. The recipie for the perfect little girl, but another ingredient was added... CHEMICAL X... thus the PowerPuff Girls were born! Review: Well, while not anime in the sense of being Japanese, PowerPuff girls is one beautifully animated peice of work. Combining some great 2D art with hints of 3D work in some spectacular scenes its hard to see why anyone would not want to watch this feature. I'll tell you why, 'Because its for kids!' Well mister, I'm fed up of this narrow mindedness. The PowerPuff Girls is aimed at a younger audience, and yes may seem 'kiddy' but it is witty, well thought through and has some amazingly directed action sequences. Did I mention how beautifully animated it is? Oh, yes, I thought so. Well the story is set before all the series as it tells the tale of how Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup went from being three little girls with super powers to becoming super heroes that saved the world before bedtime. It hold lots of treats for the fans of the series and is an enlightening watch for all those new to the concept of PPG. You get to find out why Mojo Jojo is evil and why his brain protrudes from his skull, why Buttercup has a bad attitude and Mitch has a T-shirt saying 'Mitch Rocks'. This film is absolute genius with loads of homages, a kick ass soundtrack and some wonderful, absolutely wonderful animation. The DVD has some kickass extras that make is more than worth it's 12.99 asking price. I mean you get a Dexter's Lab episode! What more could you want? Did I mention it's hella funny too? While it may not be as in depth as some film buffs may like. Yes it doesnt demand you to think, it demands you to have fun and I can honestly say it's a lot better than some recent anime I've seen. Absolute genius, and the directors commentary makes you realllly appreciate how much work and effort goes into this film. 10/10
