R.O.D. The TV Series Volume 7: The New World

Once again I have to write a review for the final volume in a show that ranks amongst my favourite on release. R.O.D. The TV has delivered excitement and adventure with every volume, as the Three Sisters Detective Agency were caught up in a plot by the British Library to take over the world. The Three Sisters have tried to protect Nenene Sumerigawa, allied themselves with Yomiko Readman, tried to free Junior from the plans that the British Library hold for the young lad. But as it comes to the closing endgame for the girls it appears as if all their attempts to avert this plot have been for naught. Yet beyond all the grand problems facing the world, the girls must contend with a shocking truth from the past that may sunder their family forever!

Mr Joker seems to have thought of every eventuality when plotting out his seizure of power, and the resurrection of Mr Gentleman. In the closing stages of this Endgame, he has neutralised the powerful governments of the world, taken prisoner the most accomplished writers in the world so that they can help form the New World Order, and sown dissent amongst the ranks of the last group of people who could possibly frustrate his plans - The Three Sisters. But whilst all this grand scope of adventure is taking place this show still brings the audience back to close family group of the Sisters.

It is within the relationships between these girls that this show succeeds so wonderfully. The bonds between the girls provide all the emotion and heart of this show: Maggie willing to betray friends to save her Sisters, Michelle never giving up her hopes for the others and Anita passionately not letting go of the happiness she finds with the other two. If this central trio could not convince the audience of their sincerity, then the rest of the shows drama and adventure could not possibly work to enthral the audience as it does.

Now I have no desire to ruin the ending for anyone, but I have to say that I felt that the end was unsatisfying, from a show that had until that point been one of the highlights of the UK market for me. It is still a good ending, but I think it was just lacking the creative spark that had been a hallmark of R.O.D. The TV. Aside from a minor issue with the close of the show, these final three episodes do deliver a lot of excitement, drama and adventure. From the Three Sisters having to come to terms with a shocking truth, and decide just what that will mean for them, to an all out assault on the Headquarters of the British Library, and then the final showdown with a resurrected Mr Gentleman this conclusion never lets up the pace and emotion of these closing scenes. If you have wanted to see the girls finally give the bad guys exactly what they deserve then make no mistake, it is here!

R.O.D. The TV has been a fantastic show from start to end. The characters have been developed throughout the series, the action has never overwhelmed the show, and the creative forces behind this success have achieved this triumph by delicately balancing all the aspects of this engaging show. R.O.D. The TV has been a hugely enjoyable experience and is a show that I would thoroughly recommend to any budding anime fan as well as the old guard of fandom!
