Remember when Gundam used to be about the character development of the pilots and how the war affected their lives? Yeah..that was great.

Unfortunately, Gundam has become what Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh!, Digimon, Beyblade, Ultimate Muscle...Wow, it's too depressing to keep going with this list. The point is that Gundam now shares one common trait with all these other shows. It's just a cash cow. Quality? Who cares about that? Just put some crap out that the stupid kids will like...and make some toys! And lunch boxes! And underwear!

I'm not sure where to begin on what's wrong with this show. First off, the gundams aren't mechs anymore. They're autonomous robots that are the same size as the people who USED to be able to pilot them. In fact, they're even smaller, looking like the result of their mothers smoking crack during pregnancy. Also, the gundams' personalities are one-dimensional and boring. They act like the ninja turtles did back in the '80s. Third, this show is animated by computer, but it looks more like cel-shading. Cel-shading might work for video games like the Legend of Zelda..but with television it just doesn't look right. Oh yeah, let's not forget that the three-dimensional animation exacerbates the dubbing, which anime fans can usually overlook. Sorry, but this has the worst dubbing I've ever seen.

The plot? Don't get your hopes up. Remember, this show exists to sell toys...and underwear. To put it concisely, the bad gundams belong to an army called the Dark Axis (Dark Axis? Why does that sound familiar....HEIL HITLER!) that want to take over the world...and the good ones won't let them...Yeah...Oh, don't forget the main character for these kinds of shows, which for some inexplicable reason is some little punk who never contributes anything to battles besides his pathetic cheerleading from the sidelines while his friends do all the work. Gundam has had it's ups and downs, but this may be the lowest of the low. I weep for the mech genre.

2/10
