Video Girl Ai

Video Girl Ai can basically be classified as a romance anime. It has its humorous moments, but its really not a romantic comedy.

The main character, a boy named Youta, is in love with a girl at his school named Moemi. Unfortunately for Youta, Moemi has no idea that he's in love with her. She herself is in love with another boy in their class, Takashi. Even worse, Moemi comes to Youta and asks him to help her gain the courage to approach Takashi and ask him on a date. Needless to say, Youta is rather depressed about all this. He rents a video girl tape from a video store, thinking perhaps it will cheer him up. When he put the

tape in his broken VCR though, the video girl, Ai, came out of the TV and into real life, ready to do whatever it might take to make Youta happy. Of course, the only thing that Youta really wants is for Moemi to love him as much as he loves her, so Ai decides to help . . .

This anime is very short--only six episodes. But even though it doesn't seem like much, the length of this series works very well. I got the impression that this series wasn't meant to be a long one. When it was over, I wasn't left with the feeling that the story should have continued for several more episodes. Unfortunately, this anime also

has a huge downfall: the ending gives absolutely no sense of closure. I know these two statements seem completely contradictory; how can you feel that a story ended at the right time, but didn't have closure? Let me try and put it this way: because of the way the plot moved, the story was definitely ready for an ending. The only problem was, the conflicts and issues in the plot were never resolved. You could call it a conclusion with out resolution.

In summary: Video Girl Ai is fairly good. It has its good points and bad points, and is overall very well done, but you don't have to be in any hurry to go out and watch it.
