Waku Waku 7 for Neo Geo

You may not have never even heard of this game. But the eminent Mr. Huxley has placed character images in some of his banners. Specifically (out of what I've seen anyway) Fernandez and Bonus-Kun. And yes, they come out of a fighting game. One look at a big black ball and a punching bag as fighters should tell you that this is a wacky game...and it is.

As I played the arcade version, I couldn't tell you of any of the extra features (if any) on the rare console versions. So I'll just be telling you about the characters and gameplay. First, keep in

mind that this is a wacky game, so characters will come along the lines of a giant bunny-thing and a robot with two tiny guys inside. There are some normal people, like the biker,Rai and the rather badass swordsman, Slash, but for the most part they're outlandish. As far as characters go, the only real fault I can find is in Rai, the main character, and also a bit of a dork.

Gameplay is pretty standard as fighting games go, however there is a neat feature, which are the 7 gems. Each fighter holds one gem, and as you defeat the others,

you get their gems for a grand total of all 7. The more you have, the better your moves can be. Of course, it's hard to make anyone fear your wrath when your super combos are named "Doki Doki" and "Hari Hari". Oh well.

Though it's a pretty simple game, it's also a fun, whimsical one with plenty of originality. The only glaring fault I find is the lack of characters. When you only have seven, you tend to blaze through the game pretty quickly. But even if the game is short (even for a fighter), it's fun while it lasts

Score: 8/10
