We Love Katamari Preview
A gaming addiction that got people hooked, made fans left and right… and was promptly ignored by the media at large. Yes, I know, Hillary and the rest of those croonies want to de-sex the gaming industry.
What sex? I can name… hmm… less than 10 games that might be sexually hot, but then again I can also name 300 games that are not. So why is Hillary (bleep)ing all over herself over this is something I don’t really get… I mean really! As you and I know there’s more E for Everybody and T for Teen games than there are M for Mature games so I don’t see her need to throw fits and complain about censorship or whatever it is that floats Hillary‘s intolerance boat.
And those M for Mature games? They’re rated that way for a REASON! I.e. they’re for ADULTS! CONSENTING MATURE ADULTS!! Not kids (which is something that seemingly have flown over Hillary’s head faster than a recently retired Concorde)!
Yeah, now it would make common sense at least to me that kids shouldn’t be getting ahold of games that weren’t meant for kids in the first place. I mean heck, it’s MARKED M for Mature you’d think somebody would be able to read… let alone fathom what M for Mature stands for.
So go ahead and stop kids from buying these games, they shouldn’t be buying them in the first place, and silly people who are too lazy to do their own “research” on games shouldn’t be allowed to buy these games for said kids! But on that topic? Don’t make it impossible for adults to but these games! What’s wrong with you anyway Hillary? Freedom a four letter word to you? Do you have people’s freedoms? Well I for one don’t treasure the thought of living in a Nanny Nation, even if Hillary does.
Any games out there that was M for Mature but should have been even more revealing? Image 1 of 5. Click to enlarge
Yes. From what I heard from X-Play there’s supposed to be an “unedited” “uncut” version of Leisure Suit Larry (PS2 version) out there that nobody wants to touch… yeah, wonder why.
Considering the game in question was a great big slice of stupid? I don’t think “edited” or “unedited” is going to change the fact that the game is a waste of time and energy to even think of playing. Not going to start singing to praises of Leisure Suit Larry the minute they release the “unedited” version, no sir.
Not like Sierra didn’t have a HOST of better old school games that sold more copies than Leisure Suit Larry! You know, the big games
So you know what? Go ahead and let them release the uncut version of Leisure Suit Larry with all the nasty put back in and unedited and uncensored… it’s not like that’s going to make the game any more playable than it was with the censoring, but it might make a few more copies fly off the shelves just because.
And no, it won’t motivate Sierra to release a PS2 King’s Quest game either, but lord knows they get that game off their chest in all it’s “glory” maybe they’ll finally see the light of day and put out some games from their better old point & click day franchises. So please, somebody, help Sierra get this off their chest… then point at King’s Quest or Space Quest and nudge them towards making one of those into a PS2 game.
Ok, nuff said about my not so cheery disposition with Sierra. Still, yes, even I would have liked to have had the option to see this “game” (cough cough) uncut, just to see if it is different. After all I’ve been known to do things I later regretted (reviewing Arc the Lad : End of Darkness comes to mind) so I’m a sometime glutton for self punishment. That and at least I would have had the FREEDOM to DECIDE on my own whether to punish myself or not, and not have that DECISION taken away from me by those who fear the Nanny Nation. Hillary hates that I have a free mind to make my own decisions doesn’t she.
Of course don’t expect me to become an instant guest on the O’Reilly Factor, CNN, or be speaking alongside that Hillary woman anytime soon when it comes to sex in video games, they’re not THAT open minded after all and how dare somebody tell them they’re blowing things way out of proportion.
I am part of the “evil liberal media”, after all, mostly because I refuse to let these shysters pull the wool over my eyes… hmm… wool… Anyway I’m not worth talking to since I’m the “little people” (the online media), and lord knows those “important” people don’t have time to chat to the “little people”, especially when we’re not falling over ourselves babbling about how great they are.
Guess it doesn’t matter anyway since there are better advocates for the cause than me out there anyway, let them handle the debating while I do the reviewing. Anyway who cares about them (it’s not like Sexy Beach 2 was anywhere near getting a domestic release on PC, Xbox or PS2 anyway before this hubba-baloo over “Hot Coffee“ mods), let’s talk Image 2 of 5. That and the entire rant killed some time so this rather short review will fit into the 400 word limit just nicely.
You know the drill. Continuing where the last game left off, you are once again on the job as the Dashing Prince (Dashing not so much as you’re handsome as hell, but Dashing as in your blood is 100% Starbucks approved Mocha Cappuccino, aka you’ve got energy to spare and then some Dashing). It seems the guitar strumming’ King of the Cosmos (aka your “dad”) has seemingly… ahh… “misplaced” the stars in the sky once again (or did he), and once again (yes) it is your job to roll up the contents of the world onto your Katamari (which is a sphere that seemingly has lots of static cling power to it) so that it can be burned up to remake the stars in the sky… again.
This time, however, you find your quest joined as your many cousins and nephews from around the world join you in the quest to remake the stars of the galaxy! The one downer about this is that your relatives don’t have any special traits that make them unique, other than their differently shaped heads… oh, and they seem to have a different way to greet new people… however useful that “talent” is.
But don’t let that get you down, because this isn’t just the same game in a new package! It’s changed!
First off you have new environments to explore, with changed game physics from the last time, including an “under the sea” mission which has you building your Katamari while dodging fish hooks (for instance).
You’ll also have “side missions” to complete, like the rolling of a sumo wrestler to make him fat. Fat as he absorbs food through his… body… his… uh… oh god what the…
Yeah. Now at long last I can join the rest of you who have already played the first game, and stare blissfully at my TV screen wondering what the heck am I doing anyway! For joy!
You also have a few new mini games to try your hands at. Image 3 of 5. Click to enlarge
If you feel the need for speed you can take your Katamari down to the race track and burn up the track.
If you feel like practicing your snowman building skills for wintertime in Animal Crossing you can try out the snowman building mini game (where instead of people, buildings and stuff you stick snow and rocks
If you feel like playing with someone else you can either play as friends (in co-op mode where two players have to coordinate their actions to build up a single Katamari) or as enemies (in versus mode where two players go all out to make their Katamari the biggest while messing the competition up at the same time).
And that is all I know. Oh, and at long last you’re exposed to the origins of the King of the Cosmos and his trials and tribulations with bullies… did they make the stars vanish out of the sky? Hmm… probably not, but still you’ll see the struggles of a young King of the Cosmos as he grows up to become the gigantic king dude he is today.
Yeah, it’s not much news (most coming from X-Play and not from Playstation’s own website) and all I’ve seen to date of the levels is… well, now abit more than before. Anyway all I’ve seen still makes this one of the most anticipated games for the PS2... Moreso if you count Disney’s possible faux pas.
I don’t know what Disney is planning but how do they plan on releasing Kingdom Hearts 2 on time if they seemingly haven’t even put it out in Japan yet? Is it out there? I haven’t heard a thing about that!
Yes, yes, it could be a joint release (put out everywhere all at once) but we’ll see when November and December rolls about in turn to see if Disney holds up to their end of the bargain and puts out Kingdom Hearts 2. If not? Then you still have games like We Love Katamari, Okami and more to hold you over… until 2007 since it looks like the PS3 might not make it’s possible launch in mid 2006 (since most games I’ve seen previewed for the PS3 say they’ll be out Fall 2006)
What was I talking about again? Oh, right, We Love Katamari.
I don’t know much about the game, but I know this is going to be a heavenly slice of addictive gameplay that is sure to get you going once you start playing! Pity there is no online play but at least you can invite friends over for a Katamari party!
Now let’s see some “fair and balanced” out there! Instead of just whining about how some games are sooooo horrible let’s see these same people praise games for being just plain good, and fun for all! Games like the upcoming We Love Katamari for instance! Stop harping on the bad and start singing the praises of the good… I promise it won‘t kill you to be positive once in awhile.
