Galaxy Angel GN 4
By David Rasmussen 17th Jul 05 Yeah, yeah, I know. I just reviewed Galaxy Angel GN 5 so why am I now reviewing GN 4? I just got ahold of it on a trip to Kona, along with enough Full Metal Panic to complete two reviews of that, as well as Planetes GN 1-2 for a review of that in the near future. But we’re not talking those now, we’re talking Galaxy Angel. I don’t know what happened previously but I do know Galaxy Angel GN 3 ended with that no good whale boy Kuromie has to go disturb Milfeulle’s thoughts by telling her all about how he saw Takuto (that weird guy who is the star of the book and supposedly everyone’s love interest) and Mint embracing in the sea… after he saved her from drowning and all. Of course Milfeulle becomes disturbed by this, as well she should, and starts to belt out confectionary treats like she was suddenly recruited into the ranks of the few, the proud, the dessert shoppe bakers. Mint can tell right off the bat that Milfeulle is flustered and goes straight to Kuromie to carve him a new one, though she might as well have saved herself the trip since it looks he’s about as clueless as any annoying male secondary character who smiles way too much (without being on drugs) could be. Of course it doesn’t help that Milfeulle walks in on a situation between Takuto and Ranpha that makes it look like they were kissing… or making out… or both kissing AND making out… has to do with falling from a so-so height and he ends up on top of her kissing her and… well, you know the rest. But there’s no time to worry about that since it looks like the forces of Eonia has once again caught up to them, only it looks like Milfeulle can’t fight straight after all these revelations and she is becoming an easy prey for the enemy. Well, that is until the newly assembled fleet of the good guys shows up to turn the tide and (for once) kick Eonia’s black fleet to the curb for a change of pace. But celebrations may have to be short lived since Eonia (like a bad social disease or bad Reality TV) doesn’t know when to quit, and comes back strong with more ships and a “Death Star” type “Black Moon” thing which is nothing but trouble, especially since it leaves a wake of death in it’s path. Then we roll into Graphic Novel 5 and the race to the White Moon, as the book ends with the Emblem Frame sprouting angel wings, and the image of the Moon Goddess Shatoyan appearing before the Angel Troupe to compel them to hurry to the White Moon… to be continued. Then we have the extras and a wrap up. So let’s wrap this up by breakdown. Galaxy Angel Breakdown the 4th What’s Hot? I don’t think this has changed in the slightest. Yes, it is a series based on a video game series (2 games that I know of) which are seemingly sci-fi dating sims… but still, it’s Galaxy Angel and it’s got some good humor and has all the characters you know from the Anime (and later on one new character) so how can it not be good? It’s not the slapstick humor of the Anime series, but it’s still a good read. What’s Not? Yes, it’s a series based on a game that seems to be a sci-fi dating sim… but it’s not a bad book. I don’t know about the game, guess they have to port that to America so I can review that, but I do know the book is good and something you should read. And, yes, if they ever get around to bringing Galaxy Angel Party which IS based on the Anime Series you’re probably familiar with, then that’ll be even better. As for the games? Sadly it seems that they’ll be as likely to bring the original and Moonlit Lovers to America as they are likely to bring Sexy Beach 2 to America (as in w/English subtitles, English menu screens and capable of playing it on your PS2 or Xbox instead of your PC)… as in I wouldn’t be holding my breath for that if I were you. It’d be nice if they proved me wrong, but so far there’s no rumbling of such an event happening so I wouldn’t count on it. Moments to Remember? Once again it’s all about the girls… and the one time you see -- ah! I almost spoiled it! But I won’t… even if it is kind of disturbing if you think about it. What to Ignore? Hmm… can’t say, it’ll ruin the surprise. Just like The Crying Game, I implore you not to reveal the secret of the near ending of this book… hint, it’s pretty much the same secret as The Crying Game (if I know The Crying Game as well as I think I do), but only in a more “innocent” way. Overall? Are you watching the Anime series? Seen Season 1 to 2 yet? You should be. BANDAI is putting out a great series here that you should be watching! Are you reading this series? Read all five Graphic Novels and looking forward to Galaxy Angel Beta GN 1? Again you should, since Broccoli Books has a nice read here that you should pay attention to. Are you reading Galaxy Angel Party? No? Me neither. Will Broccoli Books finally get serious and roll out Galaxy Angel Party GN 1? Other than on the listed date of December 2012 over at Right Stuf International. Really. By the time you get to read Galaxy Angel Party then J.K. Rowlings would have finished her Harry Potter series, Chronicles of Narnia movie 2 and possibly 3 would have been released, Spider-Man 3 AND Evil Dead 4 would have both seen theatrical release… Batman 2 and 3... Superman 2 and 3... So on, and so forth, etc. etc. etc… Just release it soon please. Nuff said.
