Gold Digger Pocket Manga Volume 7
By David Rasmussen 14th Apr 07 Ah, yet another week of Golden Age Gold Digger. I seem to give this series a lot of 5 out of 5. I have DVDs to review and all… once I finish playing God of War II. Don’t you wish I’d review that for you, wouldn’t you… but no game reviews here so, well, sorry. Just buy the game, it’s worth it. Last volume’s installment of Gold Digger has lead up to this moment, after much information gathering and preparation Gina and company hit’s the ground at this long lost arctic city NOT belonging to Santa Claus running at a full clip. Too bad everyone else including a person from Ninja High School has also showed up to lay claim. Somebody wakes up an ancient entity who has home intrusion issues, a lack of an ability to share, and is not a morning entity. Obviously from the moment of awakening much chaos happens, which means Gina goes home once again empty handed. That’s too bad, because the last vestige of that “curse” I mentioned WAAAAaaaaayyyyyyy back in my review of Gold Digger Volume 2 has kicked in and the Diggers sisters are flat busted broke! Of course they could go to mom and dad for help… if mom and dad were in this reality, which they aren’t. They’re too busy with their hands full with vacation and a “rescue mission” to even note the problems back home, so it’s up to Gina swallowing her pride (after a failed attempt at a garage sale) and accept “help” from her rival Penny. This finally ends the rivalry between Gina and Penny and they actually become closer from this, but not before Penny has a final lick at Gina’s expense… which is just as well because it seems Penny was given an offer she couldn’t refuse (under penalty of death). Has to do with working at a “Taco Bell” clone place called “Taco Hut”, and the ills of making an “archeologist” and her were cheetah sister work a regular 9 to 5 job. As the volume ends the beginning of a long storyarc starts as El Dorado, the former spaceship city, becomes spaceworthy again as Gold Digger gets it’s version of The Borg in the imminent (and sure to be reoccurring, hence The Borg reference) threat of The Dynasty… which will NOT be dealt with in the immediate future as that storyline is derailed by a certain talking intelligent dog bent on destroying all to preserve his timeline. Yeah. Next review it’s an entire volume dedicated to one time spanning crossover between Gold Digger and Ninja High School… strange enough that Ben Dunn did NOT appear as a creator here, but whatever. Breakdown time. Another piece of an even dozen books heralding the Golden Age of Gold Digger, it’s drawn well, written well, and is filled with lovable characters and well crafted stories that run like a well written ongoing soap opera which continues to this very day (OBJECTION!) -- imagine the day I review the storyline now running, because there’ll be more Phoenix Wright mentioning then than you could stand listening to. Yeah, you don’t want to rush that do you, no you don’t. 5 burning milk shake machines of doom out of 5... Milk shake machines aren’t supposed to burn, are they. Gold Digger © & ™ Fred Perry
