Gold Digger 15th Anniversary “Sacred Library” #2 of 2

2006 saw the 15th Anniversary of Fred Perry’s Gold Digger, not quite a Silver Anniversary (25th) and nowhere near the 40th Anniversary of Star Trek's (The Original Series or TOS) longevity, but a vital celebration, nevertheless. So it is with this in mind that we return to complete our look at Sacred Library (which came out as of January of this year), and ask ourselves one mighty musical question once again : What did we do to Fred Perry to deserve this, anyway?!

Yes, if I thought the 2nd issue of “Sacred Library” would be different from the first I guess I was wrong.
The first issue covered the Golden Age of Gold Digger (the first 50 issues of the series) as well as the Second Age of Gold Digger (from Gold Digger Volume 3 (aka Gold Digger II when it comes to listing it’s graphic novel releases)) from Issue #1 to #14.

This issue covers the Second Age in more detail, from #15 all the way to #72 (as of last year since this year’s batch of issues kicked off with Gold Digger #81). (I guess in 5 or so years we’ll see a 3rd issue covering the series from Gold Digger #73 and beyond).

And yes, like the original issue from 2006 this issue is most certainly for the die-hard fan over the casual reader. Yes, as any die-hard fan or a manga reviewer (like myself) will say, a complete compilation of the history of Gold Digger is vital… it’s just that this is so darn dry in it’s delivery. Sure, if you are a fan (and if you‘re not a fan then why not?) you’ll need it to keep track of all the adventures that have come and gone by, also it helps you to see what you missed (like me) so I can catch up on my reviews (I just wrapped up the Golden Age reading wise but I’m totally behind on my Second Age).

That being said it’s a great way to Google your 4-1-1 on Gold Digger, thus you should have it on your to buy list. This is vital for both the "strong in the Force" fan as well as the technical reviewer… wish it had abit more, but in the end I still think you should have a copy of each issue. I like the info, and reading it gave me a nice preview of what I’ll probably read firsthand once I check out the Gold Brick Collections (which I better get to before Gold Brick Collection Volume 5 comes out)… but it did no more than that.

Basically you need to get the Gold Brick Collections (or dig through the used book bins of Barnes and Noble like I did for my collection of the Golden Age) and own it all. What? It’s expensive?
Noooooo. Expensive is dropping $600+ on a PS3 and games to review on said PS3. Gold Digger, in comparison, is a mild investment worth making. I enjoy investing in Antarctic Press and Gold Digger, not so much joy on even thinking of investing in Sony (except for PSP games which I still review).
By the way, Sony ain’t getting my next gen money. I’m reviewing Nintendo Wii games this year! I can afford to do THAT and keep reading Gold Digger (what a nice thing!)

Everytime I review Gold Digger it gets a 5 out of 5 out of me, these two issues should be a good guide that’ll help you on your way to Gold Digger collecting (because it is worthy of a place in your collection without a shadow of a doubt). So be sure to buy this, it’s worth it.

Now when Ben Dunn comes up with a guide to Ninja High School I’ll tell you about that series and why you should also have that in the collection… guess that means it’s back to Barnes & Noble for me.
But since that’s for a future review let’s break this down. Sacred Library #2 gets a second verse same as the first score of 3 trips returns to the Second Age of Gold Digger memories out of 5.
Yes, the score didn’t change. Well the title didn’t change. It’s recommended, yes, but it is still a 3 out of 5.
Gold Digger ® and © Fred Perry.
