"Stick Figures"... ?? - Uh... that'd be... Dominic Nguyen... yeah. Him.
Site - www.megatokyo.com (but this is 2 year old information so this site might not be active anymore).

Before we begin...
I got this from a friend of mine (an associate in Japan) and she said this book was a complete waste of money and she wanted her money back somehow... and

somehow I should have took that as a sign of things to come... but I didn't, so here we are.

Graphic Novel 1
Something just seem to sound a lot better on paper, or in theory, than they are in reality.
The strange fuzzy Kerberos slash twisted Care Bears slash Hamtaro hybrids from hell aliens from Mars that invaded Earth in Excel Saga episode 2 and their

plan to invade the Earth is one such thing.
An impulsive trip to Japan after failing to get into the E3 game show is another.
The Usual Suspects...
Piro - Avid anime slash manga slash dating sim slash... probably hentai... the usual... fan.
Largo - Hard core gamer ("l33th4x0rm4st3r"... think that means complete idiot...)
Because they couldn't get into the E3 show Piro decides (while Largo is drunk) to get them on a plane to Japan... where they spend all their money and become

stranded. They have to find lodging, work, and the ability to survive while they try to get the money to return home... apparently they've been disowned by

their living relatives and society in general because nobody seems to miss them or notice they've vanished from their usual hangouts.

The subtitle of this book is "Relax, we understand j00."
That makes one of us.
What comes next is a long long experiment in literary torture.
At least for me in any case.

MegaTokyo Breakdown (hurry before I have a breakdown).
What's Hot?
Stoves are hot. Volcanic lava is hot. Coffee served at your local McDonalds is hot... and the trick of burning yourself with said coffee in order to sue

McDonald's doesn't work anymore so don't do it.
This isn't hot. Not by a long shot. Some people love this series to death -- not me.

What's Not?
There's a line in Di Gi Charat Champion Cup Theater that explains an aspect of this title quite clearly.
That aspect being the explanations of the jokes at the bottom of each page. But I think Digiko puts my thoughts on this aspect best when she says...
"Don't those idjits know that if yaz gotta explain a pun, it ain't funny >nyo?<"
Yeah. Somehow if I have to have the humor of the book explained to me then it's just no good.
Hence the Not.

Moments to Remember
It just wasn't all that memorable for me.

What to Ignore?
It just wasn't all that forgetable either... it was kind of flat, but that's just me.
Your reaction will differ so don't take this as essential truth since your experience is going to differ.
You might, in fact, like this. I didn't but that's just me.
Of course you could have an extreme reaction and fall over dead like Hyatt does in every Excel Saga graphic novel... and probably every episode she appears

in... or you could just cough up blood which isn't a pretty thing... or do both... something.
Oh, well. I didn't like it but the point is DON'T ignore it if you think you'll have a better response to it, and might in fact like it and become a fan of

the series.
Best way to know that, by the way, is to read it online (it should still be online from what I read).

Overall?
Some of my associates have sworn to me that this is a great read. Others have told me it's the most horrid thing they've ever picked up (and paged through).
But as for MegaTokyo and it's new incarnation at Dark Horse?
It's not over until Menshi (Mince) sings during the ending credits of Excel Saga...
Shh... he/she's singing now... so pass the lemon pepper dispenser and poke this series with a sharp knife, cause I'm done.
