Is CLAMP allergic to lesbians? Lord knows CLAMP has a whole lot of male on male lovin’ going on at times in some of their titles, but are they kind of… well… not so equal with woman on woman love?
And yes, if we’re talking CLAMP and female relationships right off the bat we’re talking Tomoyo and Sakura… it seems I’m ALWAYS talking Tomoyo/Sakura everytime that comes up!
Yeah. As you know if you’ve seen the uncut Card Captor Sakura, then you know how much in love Tomoyo Daidouji (Sakura’s friend) is with our star Sakura Kinomoto… of course for all the good that’ll do her since the relationship is doomed to die faster than William Hung’s “career” in singing.
But that wasn’t the worse part, oh no, it’s the part where she ends up with “Mr. Potato Head”, Syaoran Li, which just plain sucks. I mean of all the people she ends up with the annoying git… go figure.
So now that it seems I’ll NEVER EVER get over that one, how about a title filled with “fan service” that seems to speak hidden volumes about their hatred of Tomoyo’s love… okay, maybe it doesn’t speak volumes of that but you’ll never convince me otherwise.
So stand by as we peel away the layers of reality and delve into the untold totally fictional conspiracies of…
The Miyuki Files -- not starring David Duchovny (or are they fictional?)

Worlds upon worlds upon worlds exsist. Each of these many worlds in the grand multi-verse span across the wide plane of exsistence. And in this series all of these worlds are filled with willing women ready to do naughty or violent or violent naughty things that probably would excite many a otaku reading this… except for the girl who happens to be the star of this series, Miyuki, who couldn’t be more of a cold fish with all this “action” going on around her even if she tried. How much of a killjoy can she be anyway!
Apparently a great killjoy since it doesn’t matter what she confronts, or who she is faced with, she’ll continue to be a hopeless killjoy at each and every turn of the switch, and each and every twist of the reality altering gears of fate spun by the wretched (yet girl loving) creature of Silent Hill 3 fame.
Yeah. The words fan service since to have been made for this romp. More women than you can possibly imagine, with situations that would probably be more fulfilling in a XXX rated porn story, helmed by a girl who seemingly can’t stop saying no to everything (yet she doesn’t even work for a credit card company nor is her co-worker David Spade). Yeah. This is odd, but it’s also a fan favorite… go figure.

Color me curious but somehow I think it’s all the girls and all the titlation that never goes anywhere that got fans hot and bothered for Miyuki-chan in Wonderland. Can’t be the star, who is constantly a bitter little pill of denial and refusal to partcipate in anything going on around her, constantly complaining about how she’s a virgin, or not married, or unwilling slash unable or waiting for her Lifetime Channel movie of the week to showcase her angst or a Republican, or something oh goddess something that makes her want to complain!
Still all the females are hot, they do get into some steamy moments (even if the star is perpetually in denial and said scenes really go nowhere), and all these hot girls live in weird worlds like Miyuki-chan in TV Land (which doesn’t mean she has a crossover with Sanford & Son slash The Brady Bunch slash I Love Lucy slash What’s Happening slash Good Times), Looking Glass Land (which ends up involving a chess board of nearly naked women chess pieces), Part-Time Job Land (which is like WWE wrestling which used to be WWF though I guess the other WWF (the wildlife people) complained which is why it‘s now WWE) and Video Game Land (though without the cheesy Zelda reference ala an episode in D.I.C.E. DVD V. 2)… oh, and a crossover with X 1999 in Miyuki-chan in X Land.

There’s no need to go over the story, since it is a simple thing… and really going over the story will just spoil more than reveal anyway so why bother going over the story?
Miyuki does something normal, but then ends up taking a trip to the “other side” and lots of women show up and do kinky or violent or violent kinky things. Miyuki says no (a lot) and resists (a lot), then the story ends with some twisted ending that seemingly implies that the events of this story will never end. Simple. Obviously if you were hoping for a tour-de-force of reading like MKRE, Card Captor Sakura, Chobits or XXXHolic then you are going to be one disappointed CLAMP fan. This isn’t all that deep.
If you just like a titilating little read filled with lots of women falling out of their clothes or into kinky slash kinky violent situations that’ll titliate then by all means pick it up. That and it’s a One Shot which means if you’re looking for a short taste of CLAMP that doesn’t require buying several books to get the whole story then this is also recommendable for that reason. Just remember this is a OT (Older Teen) read so it’s only for 16+ only! Remember that! As for the rest? Well, the breakdown will tell the tale.

Miyuki-chan in Breakdown Land
What’s Hot?

Emm… that goes without saying, doesn’t it… doesn’t it? Yeah, that goes without saying. Yes it does. Yes.
A book full of titilating women doing occasional titilating things. That and it’s a taste of CLAMP in One Shot format -- and it’s short, did I mention how think this book is? It’s short! About 100 or so pages short! Nuff said.

What’s Not?
Yeah. This isn’t the CLAMP title to give the fan of the titles like Chobits, Angelic Layer, MKRE, Card Captor Sakura and so forth who want a strong story to go with the strong artwork. If somebody tells me that it’s the story they love about this… well… I guess I’d have a little bit of a hard time believing it. Which is, by the way, not to say that the story isn’t OK, but it isn’t the overwhelming reason to buy this. It’s the women, the titilating women, that’s the reason you’re buying Miyuki-chan in Wonderland.

Moments to Remember?
Think we can narrow it down to the women doing titilating things. Yeah. Somehow I don’t think it’s going to be remembered for it’s stirring homages to other series like Barbarella, or it’s X 1999 crossover.
Yeah. It’s the women doing titilating things. That’s it.

What to Ignore?
Think we can narrow it down to the parts where Miyuki seems to rear back in disgust where it comes to woman on woman attraction… gee… wonder if that spoke volumes about why Tomoyo and Sakura never became an item… actually it doesn’t but since we’re here we might as well make the connection… such as it is, which isn’t there. And, well, the day I get over that is the day Full Metal Alchemist fans forgive Adam Sessler for his last two reviews of the Full Metal Alchemist games which both earned a 2... Out of 5!

Overall?
You ain’t reading this for the intense storytelling, or the lovable characters… well, lovable is the word but not in the same way the word “lovable” is applied to characters of such series as Angelic Layer or MKRE or something like that. You’re just here for the lovely women… women who strip near bare or wear S&M domination gear, or little little teeny weeny little two pieces of sexy clothing, or titilate in little sexy costumes or… yeah. You are so not reading this for another Chobits storytelling experience!
But, then again, I guess there’s something to be said about this since it is still a beloved title from what I’ve seen, and fans still like it despite the fact it’s short short short, and it’s Anime is -- think it’s just a One Shot from what I heard -- is it? Anyway it’s loved, people who read it like it (from what I heard), and if you are an OT (Older Teen) or a A slash M (Adult slash Mature) then you might get hooked too… allegedly.
Nuff said.
