Mythology of the Heavens: God Of War
By otaku_kei 28th Dec 04 In the early years of mankind prior to the rise of any of the great civilisations men were ruled by petty local kings, and the violent struggle between these potentates has resulted in a barbarous world. The gods of earth, air and the elements, the gods of animals and rock all still wander the earth intervening in the lives of men and the progress of civilisation as they see fit. Sojean is one such petty king, yet he is given an offer to make a perilous journey to the mountain home of a powerful goddess and she will give him the power to become a great king. But after having made his pact with the goddess she warns him that there would always be the danger of his own son deposing him. Flying into a fitful rage he slaughters the goddess and butchers all his unborn children that he had just inseminated the goddess with. Having protected his future he flees back to his home kingdom to make war on his neighbours and become this prophesised ‘great king’. But Sojean had missed one infant in his butchery, a son, so not all hope was lost. I’m not sure what I was really expecting with this title, but I know I was not expecting the amount of sex it had in it. Sure as a depiction of a primitive way of life sex is going to be a big pastime for the people (easy way to keep warm at least), but the scenes of humans shagging gods that transform into snakes, or the four page spread of animals copulating does beggar belief. But this does lead onto the other big selling point of fantasy titles – death. Sex and death: a classic combination. There is a lot of death in this title, humans battling amongst themselves, slaughtering or being slaughtered by animals, and then of course when the gods get involved – killing and being killed. For the fans of sex & death amongst you, this title will be right up your street. As I’ve said fans of fantasy titles will find a lot to enjoy abut this title, gods intervening in the petty affairs of men, barbarous nations waging war, mystics, heroes and a prophesy for the downfall of this way of life. All of these make an appearance and it does make for an interesting tale. But for those of you who are not fans of sword, sorcery and sex stories you probably will not find too much to hold your interest here. 7/10
