It's the dream of most any family run business : to pass that business onwards to your children, watching with pride as they inherit the family business and keep it going for the next generations to come.
And it is one day that a certain girl speaks of her own family business, the Onimaru Ramen Shop, and her dreams for the future in these very words...

"My family owns a ramen shop. Every day, I watch my mother work hard to keep our shop open. Sometimes I wonder if one day, I'll be like my mom... and it creeps me out. She works long days and long nights. That's a lot of work! So, my dream is to ditch the family business and go work somewhere else."

Somewhere in the world the owner of a small family business is crying... Anyway those 10 years pass faster than you can flip the page to the next page, and yes, it looks like Miki's dream to do anything BUT the family business has died as brutal a death as when Raccoon City was nuked out of existence at the beginning of Resident Evil 4...
Oh, and speaking of dead dreams Nintendo can kiss their dream of having exclusive rights to RE4 goodbye since it's about to come out on the PS2... But back to Miki and her dead dreams.

Now that she is helping her mom run the business she seems to be eager and quite helpful... not.
Miki is sort of like a girl who wants to be helpful, but in all the wrong ways at times. She seems to have good intentions, but still... let me put it this way : think of it as if her mother (not the one in this story mind you) was a strong fighting game type girl who wanted to do good and had lots of strength and willpower... and her dad's Frank Castle. Do the evil math.

Yeah. Did I mention she has an explosive personality, quite violent, and has the tendency to want to "punish" others? Yeah. Nice. One moment she's in a "good" mood, the next she's going thermonuclear on you. And it doesn't help that the mom is as explosive a personality, and as violent, as Miki is.

This is rated as a slapstick comedy, and it shows in the endless physically driven humor that peppers the title. It's not a bad title, but it might not be for you. The humor is obvious, and you've probably seen some of the situations in this book or know where some of the humor is going without missing a beat.
Still it's a nice read. Not excellent, yes, but a good little read to try out anyway.

For my two credits worth I didn't find it totally funny, but I found it hard to put down and I kept flipping through it over and over and over and over again. So then, if it's not a laugh a minute title then let's call it... an obsessive compulsive read. You might not hurt yourself by laughing while reading it, but you might find it a tad hard to put it out of your reach and not pick it up over and over again.

What's Hot? Not a big laugh riot but quite compelling. You'll pick it up and read it, then you'll pick it up and read it again... and again... and again... the title is abit of a compulsive read if I do say so myself. You'll find yourself attached to it, and reading it over and over.
That should count as a good thing if I do say so myself.

What's Not? It's not a big humor title. I didn't laugh out loud at the scenes, but then again that's me.
If you are a fan of hard slapstick humor and really dig stuff that holds nothing back when it comes to physical humor then you'll find merit in this read. It's not gross humor, mind you, but it's not holding back either. I have to say that you should give the book a fair spin, then you'll know if you'd like it or not.
I like it, so I'll be ordering GN 2 soon so I can review it!

Moments to Remember? Yeah. The physical humor is good. I remember that the best.

What to Ignore? Nothing. It's all good.

Overall? I didn't laugh out loud on this read but I found it had a different attraction : it's a compelling read that keeps you picking it up over and over, reading it again and again. The read is abit of a compulsive addiction, and that has to mean it's good if you can't put it down for long!
Give it a shot, you might find it as compelling a read as I did!
