Pirates vs. Ninjas II #4
By David Rasmussen 18th Nov 07 So close to the end you can almost taste it. So no more recap, let’s get right into it. For the past few issues we’ve been playing a game of “Follow That Montague!”, as the hapless gimpy little man from the first Pirates vs. Ninjas finds himself the target of many a large burly man (and the occasional hot female) as he seems to have walked off with more than he should have at the end of the first Pirates vs. Ninjas (and acquired extra between volumes) which has made him the target of… let’s see… Pirates… Ninjas… and NOW the Norse Vikings! Yeah, his life is so charmed, ain’t it. As of last issue, however, dispute over the Montague seemed to have been resolved when the Ninjas finally got ahold of him, and took off via a means of aerial escape. The Pirates, left high and dry with a scuttled boat, end up rebuilding their boat in a style that might have been seen in… oh, I don’t know… Fist of the North Star… Mad Max… something with a large desert wasteland to traverse. They’re late, however, as it seems the Ninjas and Vikings are already having at it for the head (body, pilfered belongings, etc) of Mr. Montague. Yeah, this can’t be a good thing. Oh, yeah. That hammer Montague took in the intermission between the two volumes… must be broken or majorly wonky as far as mystical artifacts goes because it seems that hammer belongs to a guy named Thor, and if it is THAT hammer? Well, last I checked there was NOTHING about Montague that made him “Worthy” of the power of “Thor” (let alone ANY power). Yeah. Maybe that’s just a gimmick of the MARVEL Universe, but still… what did this guy do again that was so worthy of hefting Thor’s paperweight again? How is he in the same league as Wonder Woman, Captain America, Beta Ray Bill and so forth? The Pirates might as well sit this one out as it looks like the Ninjas are now officially doomed. Apparently the Vikings brought along the Norse Gods including a hot Valkryie female (who isn’t a character from that SquareEnix RPG series about the Valkryie), Thor, the six legged wolf Fafnir, the polar bear from Golden Compass the Movie and a guy that MIGHT be Odin (or just some one eyed guy named Varned). Varmed, Odin, whatever. He’s a big one eyed guy that looks dangerous either way. Hmm… let’s see, now that the Ninjas are at a big disadvantage so will they fight a battle on two fronts against BOTH Pirates and the Norse Gods… or will a truce be called for? Sadly it looks like I miscounted. This review has FIVE issues (at least) in it, not four. Guess next Quarter I have to request #5 for review. I’ll be sure to remember that in January. Anyway as we reach the pinnacle, ready for the drop, I am happy to say the title is holding up and looking good for it’s big finale. Despite the fact the Pirates don’t do anything in this volume except spend x amount of pages letting their hot female member show off (it’s all Ninjas vs. Norse here) I did like the overall mojo of the issue, and looking forward to the big smack down at the end. (absentee) Pirates vs. Ninjas (vs. Vikings slash Norse Powerhouses) II #4 gets 4 Valkryie Restraining Orders against greasy Ninjas practicing sexual discrimination-jitsu out of 5. Yes, Miss V., the HighFather did warn you there’d be days like this. (That or you’d get hit on by MARVEL Editors during staff meetings on issues of Thor).
